Weimaraner

About the breed
The breed arose in Germany at the court of the Duke of Weimar in the 19th century. It was bred as a versatile gundog for one master who works with it in the forest and on water. For a long time the breeding was closed and the dogs available only to hunters.
Versatile, easily trained, steady and a passionate hunter. Persevering in systematic search, with a remarkable nose. A good watchdog without aggression, exceptionally bonded to its person — it takes solitude badly.
The short coat is undemanding and a weekly brush suffices. The exercise is not: more than two hours a day plus work for the head. Without a job it becomes an unhappy and destructive dog — that is the rule, not the exception.
Hip dysplasia, gastric torsion (deep chest) and autoimmune disease are watched. The breed tends to be more sensitive to certain vaccination reactions; discuss the schedule with your vet.
For a hunter or a genuinely active household with space. Good with children. Not a breed for a first dog, nor for anyone out at work all day.
Versatile gundog — work before and after the shot, and on water.
Gundog; companion for an active household.
