Japanese Terrier

Japanese Terrier

The Japanese Terrier was developed in Japan during the 1920s–1930s by crossing local small dogs with European toy breeds brought by foreign diplomats. Originally used for ratting in urban areas and as an elegant companion to Japanese aristocracy, it features a sleek, short coat in classic black-and-white or tan-and-white markings, a slender build, and an alert, lively expression. Today’s Japanese Terrier is an intelligent, loyal, and sensitive dog, well-suited to apartment and family life. It requires consistent yet gentle training, regular socialization, and daily exercise.
