French Bulldog
The French Bulldog originated in France in the 19th century, developing from small bulldog-type dogs brought by English lace workers, and quickly became popular among Parisian society as a charming companion rather than a working dog. Bred primarily for companionship, it is known for its compact build, distinctive bat-like ears, and expressive personality. Today, the French Bulldog is a calm, affectionate, and people-oriented breed that thrives on close contact with its owners, making it ideal for apartment living and urban lifestyles. While it does not require intense physical activity, it needs attention, gentle care, and awareness of its sensitivity to heat, rewarding its family with loyalty, humor, and a strong emotional bond.

About the breed
Created in Paris in the second half of the 19th century from small bulldogs brought to France by English lace workers from Nottingham. It caught on first among workers and market traders, passed from them to the Parisian bohemia, and from there across Europe.
Sociable, lively and playful. It attaches closely to its people and takes long absences badly. This is a dog for the flat and for company — not a worker and not an athlete.
The short coat asks for almost nothing; the facial skin folds must be kept clean and dry. Keep exercise short and split across several outings, and in hot weather or the middle of the day do not go out at all.
This is a brachycephalic breed — the shortened muzzle brings brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) and poor heat tolerance. The spine (hemivertebrae), skin folds and eyes are also watched. When choosing a puppy, ask how the parents breathe under exertion, not at rest.
For a flat, for the city and for a calmer household, and suitable for a first-time owner. Wrong where a sporting partner is expected, and for anyone unable to adapt the routine on hot days.
Companion and toy dog.
Urban companion.
