Dandie Dinmont Terrier

Dandie Dinmont Terrier

The Dandie Dinmont Terrier originates from the Scottish Lowlands, where as early as the 18th century it was used to hunt badgers and otters. The breed is named after Dandie Dinmont, a character in Walter Scott’s novel Guy Mannering. It features a long body set low on short legs, and a dense, harsh coat with a distinctive “topknot” on the head, available in two color varieties—“pepper” (blue–gray) and “mustard” (yellowish–tan). Originally prized for its courage, stamina, and excellent scenting ability in pursuing vermin, today’s Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a affectionate, calm, and steadfast companion. It requires moderate exercise, consistent yet gentle training, and regular grooming to maintain its unique coat.
