Aidi

Aidi

The Aidi, also known as the Atlas Mountain Dog, originates from North Africa where it was traditionally used by Berber tribes as a guardian of livestock and property in the rugged Atlas Mountains, rather than as a herding dog. Bred for vigilance, courage, and resilience, it developed a strong protective instinct and the ability to work independently in harsh conditions. Today, the Aidi remains an alert, loyal, and territorial breed that forms a close bond with its family but stays reserved toward strangers, making it well suited for guarding roles and for owners who can provide clear leadership, consistent training, and enough space and activity to meet its needs.
