Affenpinscher

Affenpinscher

The Affenpinscher originates from Germany, where as early as the 17th century it was kept in stables and barns to hunt rats and other vermin. Its name means “monkey terrier,” referring to its impish facial expression reminiscent of a little ape. It features a compact, muscular build, a dense wiry coat, and a distinctive topknot of hair on its head. Originally valued for its fearless nature, endurance, and keen hunting instincts, today’s Affenpinscher is a sprightly, intelligent, and loyal companion requiring regular play, consistent yet gentle training, and modest but routine grooming to maintain its textured coat.
